Charles Fail

A Fail (alternatively called "Mission Failed" in Completing the Mission) is an option Henry Stickmin can choose that do not achieve the intended result. This generally happens if the item does not work, works in a not so useful way, or works against/kills Henry.

Each game in the Henry Stickmin series is infamous for its "FAIL" system. In every path there is one (and occasionally more) set(s) of choices that allow you to progress, and all deviations from it give you different hilarious failure scenes. Actually seeing each unique failure is usually considered more interesting and fun than trying to complete the game perfectly.

Fails from Breaking the Bank, Escaping the Prison, Stealing the Diamond, Infiltrating the Airship, Fleeing the Complex and Completing the Mission are listed below. There are 347 fails across all games. All fails tend to have a message that displays after their segment is over (except the Dark Energy Blaster).

Animations

  • Breaking the Bank: The screen turns white with the red word "FAIL" appearing while shaking with a sound corresponding to the fail you got. Shortly after, the fail message fades in and so does everything else. This is the only remastered game to not reveal your total fail count.
  • Escaping the Prison: The screen turns black, while what appears to be a red stamp with the word "FAIL" in the middle slams onto the screen (save for the Lawyered Up route, where the word "Guilty" shows up in white), with the Fail Message appearing below at the same time.
  • Stealing the Diamond: Same concept as before, except instead of a stamp, it's a white wooden plank with the red word "FAIL" painted on, and the fail message is a bit delayed. (The fail counts are obscured for when the Center for Chaos Containment sends the Divide by Zero Calculator.)
  • Infiltrating the Airship: The screen turns white (in the original) or blue (in the remake) and shatters with the word "FAIL" appearing at the top as if it were spray-painted. Everything else appears at the same time.
  • Fleeing the Complex: A blue screen with scanning effects pops up along with the red word "FAIL" and the message below that. Then everything else pops up.
  • Completing the Mission: The screen turns white with a sound very similar to a camera shutter and gray text reading "[MISSION FAILED]" at the top (save for Spirit Forme which uses a To-Be-Continued arrow; Corruptick, where the text reads "[FISSION MAILED]"; and Finish Him, where the text reads "[MISSION FAILED?]"), plus everything else, appears in a fade. This is the only one that doesn't read purely "FAIL" and the only time the word "FAIL" isn't red.

Crossing the Pit fails

  • Leap - A stickman tries to jump to the other side, but instead falls off.
  • Pole Vault - A stickman tries to use a pole vault to get to the other side, but instead tosses himself into the pit.
  • Catapult - A stickman uses a catapult, but it throws him into the pit instead of over it.
  • Ramp - A stickman drives a car onto a ramp and actually reaches the other side. It may look like a success, but it's not, because the car suddenly falls into the pit right after.
  • Rocket - A stickman lights the fuse of a rocket, riding it and simply crashing into the pit.
  • Bridge - A stickman puts a thin bridge between the pit, but due to his weight the bridge breaks and falls.
  • Cannon - A stickman tries to use a cannon to launch him to the other side, but instead does not apply any true propulsion and burns him to ash.
  • Teleporter - A stickman uses a teleporter to attempt to get himself to the other side, but he instead teleports into the pit and falls.

Breaking the Bank fails

All Fails are in the starting area.

FailBtB
  • Shovel - Henry grabs a shovel from his pocket and holds it up. It shines and plays the iconic sound effect from the Zelda series. Henry cocks the shovel like a gun and digs a tunnel underground. He falls down onto a subway train track. He gets up and is hit by an oncoming train. In the Remaster, this fail is renamed to the Shovel, and when selected, Henry instead accidentally hits a gas main and is blown up.
  • Explosives - Henry tries to detonate a box of TNT, but it doesn't blow up. When he goes over to touch it, it immediately blows up in his face. In the Remaster, Henry accidentally drops a bomb while he was setting up explosives, which detonates the TNT, and the ensuing explosion is more intense.
  • Laser Drill - Henry cuts a hole in the wall using a laser drill. The section of the wall he cut falls on him.
  • Wrecking Ball - Henry uses a wrecking ball to break the bank wall, but the ball misses, coming back around and destroying the vehicle and killing Henry. In the Remaster, Henry is instead mistaken for a construction worker and is told by Chad Hansen to move away.
  • Teleporter - Henry uses the Teleporter to teleport into the bank, but ends up stuck in the middle of a wall.

Escaping the Prison fails

  • Starting area/Cell:
    • FailEtP
NrG Drink - Henry drinks it and the world seems to freeze around him. He escapes his cell and walks through the prison, all while being totally undetected, as everything around him has stopped. His heart stops when he exits the door, and Henry dies.
    • Teleporter - Henry attempts to use it, but ends up teleporting to in a gun range outside the prison, and gets shot on accident by police recruit, Jonas Noogan. This then has Jonas and Captain Roland Canterbury remark this event feeling remorse for Henry.
    • Rocket Launcher - Henry fires it at a nearby janitor, Harold Ronson, but it ends up turning 180 degrees in a C shaped pipe, hitting his face. The blast is censored by the camera teleporting outside.

    • Using the File on the window - Henry files the bars guarding the window and falls out. The fall possibly kills him.
  • Cell Block:

He got up, raised his arms in happiness after seeing he was alright. He then realizes that he is on a road and looks behind his back without turning his body and is hit by a passing bank truck.
    • Jetpack - Henry starts it, only to seemingly not work and show a fail screen, only to start up after the fake fail. He can't control it however, and ends up crashing back in his own cell just as the bar he filed is being replaced (and he is greeted by Repairman/Janitor, Harold Ronson).
    • Parachute - Henry puts the parachute on and falls. when he opens it, the 'parachute' releases a bunch of junk. When he lands, he's somehow still alive, but a navy blue medium-sized diamond and a pan land on his head, killing him.

Lame Ending/Lawyered Up fails

  • Courtroom:
    • FailGuilty
Anything but the disguising bag - When Felix White presents something that isn't the disguise bag, Judge Hubert Brown asks him, "What is this?", and he answers, "It's evidence!" When Judge Hubert asks how that actually proves anything, White sheepishly says he was just joking. Judge Hubert Brown replies "There's no time for jokes," and judges Henry Stickmin on the spot (much to his dismay), pronouncing that he's guilty.

Badass Ending/Badass Bust Out fails

  • Bathroom:
    • Opacitator - When Henry activates the device, he immediately goes through the floor. He keeps falling all the way to the prison's ground floor, but once there, he doesn't stop and keeps falling into the ground, straight into the Earth's core, incinerating burning.

The Fail Board here will erratically rotate for a few seconds on the fail screen.
  • The C.C.C.
    • Divide by 0 button - A calculator falls in front of Henry, he picks it up. A mechanical hand presses the buttons, showing "1337" (a term for the word LEET). Suddenly, it divides to zero. Then the building collapses, presumably killing Henry and everyone around him.

After a period of clarifications, Henry agrees to go along with Charles' plan, outvoting Ellie.
